Colorado-based Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is planning to reach 50 stores across the US by the end of the year as it seeks to build on strong 2023 outlet and sales growth. 
 

The franchised coffee chain opened seven new stores in 2023 to reach 32 outlets across 14 US states and currently has more than 100 sites in development. In August 2022, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii announced a goal of operating 180 stores by 2028. 

Alongside opening more than 20 net new stores, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is seeking to sign agreements for an additional 36 sites this year with a focus on southeast and southwestern US states.  

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii achieved positive like-for-like sales growth last year, with half of its franchisees setting record sales weeks. Its top 25% performing stores achieved sales exceeding $1.2m, according to the brand’s 2023 franchise disclosure document. 

The business also cited a ‘Hawaii Estate Series’ packaged coffee partnership with Kona Earth and brand ambassador partnerships with professional surfers Cole Alves and Summer Macedo as key successes of 2023.  

“We are maturing as a brand and are incredibly excited for the future. The momentum we have is at an all-time high as we continue to develop primary markets. Despite challenging economic conditions, interest from franchisee prospects has only grown, further validating our position as a leading coffee franchise in the QSR space,” said Scott Snyder, CEO of Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii.  

In October 2023 Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii appointed former Paris Baguette America executive Gregg Koffler as its new Chief Development Officer. He is responsible for developing ‘growth strategies’ for the coffee chain, with a specific focus on streamlining the development process for new franchise units.
